Copa Coya is the name of a hill located on the Tatio area (Geysers), on the Andes mountains, 89 kilometers away from San Pedro of Atacama, northern Chile (Atacama desert).
Tatio is a geothermal field at 4200 meters above sea level.
The Copa Coya hill has a maximum altitude of 4785 meters above sea level. The trekking distance around it covers a distance of 12 kilometers aprox, starting and finishing the walk from the Tatio geothermal field. During the trekking is common to see a wide variety of animals (Vicuñas, Vizcahas, etc), a varied vegetation (specially the famous Yareta), beside majestic mountains and landscapes.
This is a very recommended trekking for those who wants to try ascending hills and volcanos in the area. This is a very good first altitude sport experience for acclimatization.
The trekking includes the possibility of a bath on the thermal pools of the Tatio park.
Trekking time: 5 hours aprox.
Trekking distance: 12 kms. aprox.
Necessary gear: Warm clothe (gloves, hat, polar jacket, windbreaker, etc), sunglasses, sun protection, trekking boot y trekking canes.
Tips: Take a light breakfast in the morning. Energy food and sufficient water should be taken for the walk.
Approximately expedition time: From 6AM (departure from San Pedro de Atacama) until around 4PM (arrival to San Pedro de Atacama)

– Breakfast at Tatio prior starting the trekking.
– Guided trekking (english/spanish).
– A snack during the walk.
– Gear and clothe the traveler may not have.
